  • Correspond to a name that can cause confusion about the domain owner, particularly if it is similar to well-known or prestigious brands belonging to a third person
  • Correspond to a protocol, application or internet-related specific terms

  • Registration conditions for two-character domain names are unchanged for .pt.

Register a .pt domain name

.pt is the national domain name extension for Portugal. Its reservation is open to all, and it is therefore not geographically limited to the country. However, choosing a .pt domain name is ideal if your business is aimed at the Portuguese population.

About the .pt extension

.pt is the official country code top-level domain name (ccTLD) for Portugal. Created in 1988, its administration is managed by the Portuguese Foundation for National Scientific Computing (FCCN). Whether you own an amateur blog, a business or another type of national or international organisation, you can reserve a .pt domain name. It is very easy to register or transfer a domain name while enjoying the services included with OVHcloud. In addition to DNSSEC protection against cache poisoning, you get a 5GB mailbox and 10MB of web hosting space.

Why choose a .pt domain name extension?

As the top extension in Portugal, .pt is recognised and appreciated by Portuguese web users. It reassures your visitors and customers by demonstrating proximity between your services and their country of residence. This is a significant advantage for search engine queries across the country. A Portuguese web user is more likely to visit a website with a domain name ending in .pt - plus, they will also expect to read the website in their native language.

* Please note that transferring a domain name does not extend its expiry date.
